[WHATS DOPE ABOUT HEMP] The latest addition to our range of super fibres.

Hemp is something of a wonder plant but there are many misconceptions surrounding it. Historically, (up until the 1930s), hemp was a major player in the food and fibre industry. The seeds contain essential fatty acids, proteins and carbs - you can literally live off it. Today, hemp is making a comeback. Consumer demand has been growing at over 100% per annum worldwide and it’s no wonder! The benefits of growing and using hemp are becoming overwhelming.

Hemp is a super crop. It is incredibly hardy and requires little or no herbicides or pesticides. It is fast growing, maturing around the hundred day mark. Hemp’s deep, penetrating roots replenish and detoxify soil. This includes an ability to fix nitrogen and replenish PH levels, whilst removing harmful metals. It is also a massive tank for sequestering carbon dioxide.

Being such a strong and versatile plant there are a huge number of uses including producing biodegradable plastics, food, fuel, paper, rope, building materials, health and beauty products, and clothing and textiles.

We are thrilled to have hemp laying its roots at Opus Fresh Apparel Co. Hemp is the perfect addition to our adventure and outdoor wear, with many of the same qualities that make it great for an active lifestyle. It is breathable and insulating, durable, soft, and moisture-wicking, and it also has anti-bacterial and antifungal properties. Keeping you looking and feeling fresh!

And no, it does not get you high. Hemp belongs to the Cannabis family but it contains less than 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC (the psychoactive component). Comparing hemp and weed is like comparing a Chihuahua to a Bull Mastiff. They are of the same species but there are substantial differences. The main difference is a legal one, so let’s make use of this wonder plant in the best way possible and for the health of our planet.
